"Lady of GENJIMONOGATARI-UTSUSEMI" Hanging scroll 2013
When people think about"rain",they often have an image of the melancholy. Look at it from the farmer's perspective, however, and there are benefits as well as the potential for drought and flood. A sunshower can be refreshing, a monsoon devastating. Everyone has a different image, changing from your perspective. When we can see the subject from these different viewpoints we can begin to understand the true identity. Seeing "rain"from one vantage limits and warps our understanding. Like trying to see something from all sides, my works are a way to show people another facet of me in the meaning of words chosen and the forms they take.

Calligraphy is not just writing words in a fancier manner, but an art form of meaning, lines and space. The hand remembers and learns to write a word through repetition. Repetition of the written form continuously refines and at times simplifies the composition. Perfect execution is unnatural (a perfect work can be pulled from a computer). Control of the brush, practice and experience all are integral, but a chance pause or unplanned line can play as much of a role in completion. My ideal is more recognized than developed, such that the viewer is attracted to more human as opposed to machine-made perfection.
